Newly opened marijauna co-op vandalized in downtown Bellingham

A marijuana co-op located on Cornwall Avenue was vandalized Sunday, April 10, the Bellingham Herald is reporting.

The manager of the Northern Cross Co-op came to work around 10 a.m. to find a broken window, Bellingham Police Sgt. Jason Monson said.

Nothing was reported stolen but damages are estimated at $800. The business opened on April 1.

Bellingham’s first medical marijuana co-op opened downtown April 1 and is already receiving some heavy opposition, The Bellingham Herald is reporting.

The prosecutor’s office says Northern Cross medical marijuana co-op, a store where patients who have medical marijuana prescriptions can find the drug, is breaking the law.

Cocaine bust uncovers 72 pounds of cocaine, worth $1 million

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office confiscated 72 pounds of cocaine after arresting a Canadian citizen on March 4, The Bellingham Herald is reporting.

Narcyz Urbanski, 59, of Surrey, British Columbia, was traveling north on Interstate 5 when a sheriff’s deputy stopped him. The deputy noticed Urbanski was acting suspicious, and called in for a drug-sniffing dog.

The dog detected drugs inside the vehicle, and Urbanski was arrested upon discovery of the cocaine, worth $1 million. He was charged in Whatcom County Superior Court on Monday.

The Stranger has learned that immediately after the Seattle Times ran an editorial last week supporting a bill to tax and regulate marijuana, the newspaper got a phone call from Washington, D.C. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy director Gil Kerlikowske wanted to fly to Seattle to speak personally with the paper’s full editorial board.

The meeting is scheduled for next Friday, an apparent attempt by the federal government to pressure the state’s largest newspaper to oppose marijuana legalization. Or at least turn down the volume on its new-found bullhorn to legalize pot.

Heroin bust at Samish Way hotel may have disrupted major drug ring

Two Ferndale brothers have been arrested on multiple counts of alleged possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, KGMI is reporting.

Ryan Pantalia, 29, and Joseph Pantalia, 26 were taken into custody from a Samish Way hotel, where police say they discovered $25,000 worth of black tar heroin and $51,000 in cash.

The brothers were booked into Whatcom County Jail at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
