Gelato fundraiser to support waterskiing team

Winter may be coming to a close but for some Western students the skiing isn’t over yet.

Western’s Water Ski Team is kicking of its spring season with a tasty fundraiser this weekend.

Sirena Gelato, at 960 Harris Avenue in Fairhaven, will donate a portion of their sales to Western’s Water Ski Team between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 17.

Did you know Western has the largest water ski team outside of California and Arizona? To be honest, I didn’t even know we had a team.

Jennie-O Turkey burgers recalled in 12 states, including Washington

Hold the turkey.

Jennie-O Turkey store in Willmar, Minn., has recalled 55,000 pounds of frozen turkey burgers, the Associated Press is reporting.

The raw turkey burgers may be contaminated with salmonella, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced a recall of the product April 2.

Ever considered eating raw? No, I don’t mean downing a bloody steak or experimenting with sushi.

But if you want to learn about raw foodism — “the consumption of uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods”check out this demonstration happening 7 to 9 p.m. March 8 at Unity Church, which is located at 1095 Telegraph Rd. in Bellingham.

Freeze forces Dining Services to hold the tomatoes

Is it a fruit? Is it a vegetable? Whatever it is, it’s in short supply.

The worst freeze in more than 50 years has led to a shortage of tomatoes and other produce grown in the South and Mexico.

University Dining Services has posted signs at popular on-campus dining venues apologizing for a lack of variety.

But that hasn’t stopped their creativity.
